Fan Trailer Tuesday - Artemis Fowl
I read the Artemis Fowl books religiously when I was little. They were so addicting. Child genius + fairies + jetset adventures around (and under) the world? They were really entertaining. Granted, I haven't read the recent books because I'm just too old for the series now, I'll always have fond memories of the series. Now for the trailer:
I said last week I was getting annoyed with the constant casting of Ben Barnes as the male hottie in books. Well, this week I realized my pet peeve of seeing scenes from The Spiderwick Chronicles in every single trailer. Used well and tastefully, the movie clips have the potential to improve the trailer. But for this trailer's case (which otherwise is okay), I found the clips lacking in coherency to the actual book.

Fan Trailer Tuesdays - Clockwork Angel
Love her, hate her, wish her luck, wish her death, Cassandra Clare has an immense fanbase. She is one of the most followed authors on Goodreads, and her books always top some sort of reputable book chart in terms of sheer number of buyers. It was only the next step that one person in her gaggle of worshippers was handy with iMovie.
I really liked this trailer. I was pretty ambivalent about Clockwork Angel as a whole, but as always, these are trailers so I can't really take into account the quality of the book when I review them.
First off, I really LOVED the use of the cut scenes with the clock gears in the background. They were a clever use of special effects that left me wondering where she got them--certainly no fanmade trailer before this has had cut scenes like them before. I also liked the voice overs (FINALLY!) because they just added that touch of realism to the trailer. You don't ever see a silent trailer with only music; there is always some sort of voice or narration involved.
The only thing I can really say I didn't like was the use of Ben Barnes in the role that I presume is Will Herondale. He is so overused in fan trailers, I have to keep an eye out to pick trailers that don't have his face in them. Some people find him hot...well, I think he's kind of odd looking and way too old for a love interest role in a YA book. He's 30 years old, for God's sake. Please, I don't need him filling the shoes of my teen boy candy anytime soon...not even as Dimitri from Vampire Academy.

Fan Trailer Tuesday: Shiver
I don't like the book Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater. Her writing style is too flowery and unnatural, and whatever good there is to it is wasted on a clichéd, melodromatic soap opera. But I'm not looking for books I loved when I go searching Youtube.
I found a pair of fan trailers for Shiver that a person did. She switched up the cast in each version and slightly altered the clips. I personally like the first version better. And what's interesting is that the creator actually put in voice overs that meshed over the actor's silent dialogue so the words matched up with the lips. I thought that was a creative way to get the right dialogue into the trailer but still keep the right actor.
I would love to hear what you guys think about these two trailers. Which one did you like the best? Which one had the best cast? Best clips?

Fan Trailer Tuesday: Divergent
The trailer for this week is a fanmade trailer for Divergent by Veronica Roth. I personally really enjoyed the book. It wasn't the most unique dystopia I've read, but it was one of the most fun.
Anyway, here is the trailer:
The good things about this trailer: the scene clips. I can literally pick any part to this trailer, and identify the scene with a part from the book. Also, the music just made the trailer. It provided an eerie suspense and tension to the clips, which might've seen bare without the right track selection. However, I would've preferred if there was a little more about the other factions. One of the great things about Divergent is the incorporation of the faction system. I really wanted to see more of the Abnegation and Erudite.

The Hunger Games trailer
And speaking of trailers, have you seen The Hunger Games trailer that was released yesterday! Can you say wow?
This is amazing. I am a huge fan of The Hunger Games. In a day and age where YA fiction is geared towards the Twihards, Suzanne Collins dared to write something that wasn't focused around a damsel in supernatural distress. Regardless of what you have to say about the book series, I think it's pretty obvious that this movie will be great--or at least, I hope it will be. I can only pray that The Hunger Games movies turns out to be the next Harry Potter rather than the next Eragon or Inkheart.

Fan Trailer Tuesday: Fever Series
If you've read my reviews for the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning, you know that I have a love hate relationship with the books. They drive me insane, and half the time, I feel like a sadistic creep for enjoying it. Mac is so infuriatingly stupid, but she grows in strength and knowledge throughout the 5 books. And Barrons is just so damn sexy, but his misogyny makes me barf, hands down.
But regardless, I found a really good trailer for the series in general. Compared to The Iron King trailer or the Ender's Game trailer from the last few weeks, this isn't as good. But this trailer has some great sweeping action shots that remind me of the book. Also, I just like the feeling of the trailer. It has this constant moodiness to it that matches the series 100%. My qualms are the song and the actors. The song is annoying. 'Nuff said there. And while I like Kristen Bell as Mac (she has that pretty, edgy look that works), I don't think the choice for V'lane was well done. There was another trailer I was looking at to feature that portrayed V'lane as the fairy prince from Hellboy II. That fit better, in my personal opinion.
But here is the trailer to see for yourself. Enjoy and comment!

Book Trailer Tuesday: Ender's Game
Another fanmade trailer for you because it's that time of the week. This week's trailer is for Ender's Game, a book I personally haven't read yet but my friends have told me it's amazing. And by the look of this trailer, I really want to give it a read because this is just a mind blowing trailer. Just like last week's The Iron King trailer, I found this fanmade work to be on par with some of the trailers I see on TV.
I don't know too much about the Ender series. I know it's about some child prodigy and a space war. But hell, this is one badass trailer. There is action, great cut scenes, music, etc. Amazing, no?

Book Trailer Tuesday: The Iron King
Alright, so I confess to sort of liking The Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa. They're like my guilty pleasures. While I absolutely hated Meghan (and still sort of do, only to a lesser extent) in the first two books, she really shone in The Iron Queen. So right now, I'm reading The Iron Knight which tells the story from Ash's POV. So far, so good. But I'll get to that later.
In honor of the recent release of The Iron Knight, I searched Youtube for a great fanmade trailer for the series. I came across this video, which apparently has also been reposted to Julie Kagawa's blog. I think everyone can agree that this really great in fanmade trailer standards.
What's great about this trailer is that it actually looks like something you'd see on T.V. The actors and actresses remain the same throughout the entire trailer, and from the clips I saw, they all fit the actual storyline of The Iron King (e.g. A smiling Grim? Genius!). Also, I just liked how the entire thing flowed together. The Iron King comes chalk full of Faery lore, so I was glad that this trailer got a lot of that in there. Also, there was a great usage of one song throughout the entire trailer that fit everything. All in all, bravo. I just really enjoyed this. I guess if I had one complaint, I'd wished there was more voice acting. But that's a minor qualm.

Book Trailer Tuesday: City of Bones
So I've decided to post a weekly book trailer that I've come across on Youtube. These book trailers don't necessarily have to be of a book I've enjoyed, but they have to be good. Also, take note that these are not the official book trailers produced by the author and the publishing companies. These are all fanmade, which means the editing shouldn't be expected to be top notch.
This week's book trailer if City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. I know Clare's books have gotten a lot of heat--people either love them or hate them. Me? I lean more towards the love. But let that not distract you from the trailer. For a fanmade trailer, I thought this was pretty good. For one, the maker actually stuck with the same actors/actresses throughout the entire video. Also, the scenes just worked. As I've read City of Bones, I could easily match up the clips to the scenes in the book. What I didn't like about this trailer was the overuse of music and underuse of dialogue. When you see a movie trailer, there is always someone talking, either in a voice over or directly through clips of interacting people. However, this trailer was just full of music meshed together into one long stream, and I found that the music often times didn't fit with the scenario on screen.
As always, I hope you enjoy.
